Volcano Tribal

I have always been fascinated by lines, gestures and calligraphic signs followed by the power they have when interact with human feelings. I have a background in Japanese and Korean art and a particular interest in their writing system and original pictograms.

My work is guided by a research that follows the relationship between nature and gesture. The calligraphic work is inspired by the historic and cultural past of writing systems in oriental countries and the “line” in nature. Furthermore, it is not a copy of them but an attempt to translate their power in my own signs and gestures.

The creative process follows a structured preparation with physical exercises and movements.

The aim is to rediscover the origin of gestures and the powerful expression of the line.

The research I am interested in is about finding the way to create artwork using these materials in the most natural way possible concentrating on natural gesture and the way the body moves only using my hands to model the sculptures. Therefore the importance of the gesture expressed through body movements following deep emotions existing in the instant of creation. I am also approaching the idea of finding ways to make art without harming the environment.
